YL Concerts a cappella

YL’s a cappella (without accompaniment) repertoire presents Finnish national romantic classics, international male choir gems, contemporary pieces and entertaining elements such as tangos or Lappish joikhs . A further variety is introduced when YL is teamed up with soloists, whether vocal or instrumental. YL makes annually a few domestic tours and one or two tours abroad. Our spring concerts and Christmas concerts have a firm place in the calendar. Over the last years YL has been frequently requested to perform in major Finnish stages and various international festivals. YL is widely recognized as a popular and esteemed performer, so do not hesitate to contact us if you are looking for a memorable concert experience!

Festivities and Corporate Events

If you are looking for a bold and vigorous grand opening, an inspiring piece of vocal art, an entertaining musical number or ”something exotic and definitely Finnish”, YL is your choice. The choir has been widely hailed for performances in events such as congresses, big corporate gatherings and receptions of the state. Building a corporate event around a versatile choral concert will certainly be memorable for your customers and staff. Especially around Christmas, YL is used to organize and perform private Christmas concerts for selected corporations and their customers. Pieces for Symphony Orchestra and Male Chorus

YL actively performs with top class orchestras and conductors. Especially the Kullervo symphony by Jean Sibelius , and the maestro’s other orchestral works, have been a widely appreciated specialty of YL. The choir has performed and recorded the Kullervo starting from the world premiere with Paavo Berglund and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and continuing with Leif Segerstam and the Helsinki Philharmonic, Osmo Vänskä and the Lahti Symphony and Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In concert, the Kullervo has been sung by YL in Glasgow, Singapore and Mexico City together with the local premium symphony orchestra. In the last years, YL has also been performing other orchestral works like Robert Kajanus’ Aino , Armas Launis’ Aslak Hetta , Arnold Schönberg’s Gurrelieder , Igor Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex and Uljas Pulkkis’ Neito , a symphony commissioned and premiered by YL to celebrate the choirs 125th anniversary in 2008.

YL is eager to receive proposals from symphony orchestras and concert agents, when the repertoire requires the full input of a large male chorus.
